HashiCorp updates exam versions periodically (e.g., Terraform 002 → 003). An older version badge (002) may still be within its 2-year validity window. Check that the badge has not expired regardless of exam version — the expiration date is what determines current status.

IBM acquisition context

HashiCorp was acquired by IBM in 2024. As of 2026, the HashiCorp certification program continues to operate, badges are still issued through Credly under the “HashiCorp” issuer name, and existing credentials retain their validity.

IBM may integrate or rebrand HashiCorp certifications in the future. For candidates with very recent credentials, confirm the issuing organization name on Credly reflects the current state of the program.

Red flags

  • Credly badge issuer is not “HashiCorp” — unofficial Terraform training badges exist from bootcamps and training providers
  • Badge expiration date has passed — HashiCorp certs expire after 2 years

  • Claims Professional level without having first held Associate — while not a hard prerequisite, the Professional exam builds on Associate knowledge
  • Conflates Terraform certification with generic “DevOps certification” — these are distinct credentials
