Marketing Credential Verification
How to Verify a HubSpot Certification
HubSpot Academy offers free certifications widely listed on marketing, sales, and RevOps resumes. Verification is straightforward through public certificate links and Credly badges — here's what to look for.
Quick answer
Ask the candidate to share their HubSpot Academy certificate link or their Credly badge. HubSpot issues shareable certificate URLs directly from app.hubspot.com/academy — candidates can generate a public link to each earned certificate. HubSpot also issues Credly badges for select certifications. Annual renewal is required for most HubSpot certs.
HubSpot certification categories
HubSpot Academy offers certifications across marketing, sales, service, and platform administration. The most commonly listed on resumes include:
| Certification | Audience |
|---|---|
| HubSpot Marketing Hub Certification | Marketing professionals using HubSpot |
| Inbound Marketing Certification | Broad marketing strategy and methodology |
| Content Marketing Certification | Content strategy and creation |
| HubSpot Sales Hub Certification | Sales reps and managers using HubSpot CRM |
| HubSpot CMS for Developers | Web developers building on HubSpot CMS |
| HubSpot Reporting Certification | RevOps and analytics professionals |
| Email Marketing Certification | Email marketers and campaign managers |
How to verify
Shareable certificate link
HubSpot allows certified users to generate a public URL for each certificate. Ask the candidate to share the link — it opens a public page on app.hubspot.com or academy.hubspot.com showing the certificate details including the recipient's name, certification name, and expiration date.
Credly badge
HubSpot issues Credly digital badges for select certifications. If the candidate provides a Credly badge link, verify at credly.com/badges/[id] that:
- The issuing organization is “HubSpot”
- The badge name matches the claimed certification
- The expiration date has not passed
HubSpot certs expire annually
Most HubSpot certifications expire after 1 year and require retaking the exam or completing renewal coursework to maintain. An expired HubSpot cert is very common on resumes — verify the expiration date before accepting it as current.
Setting appropriate expectations
HubSpot certifications are free, self-paced, and primarily exam-based. They indicate familiarity with HubSpot's platform and marketing concepts, but represent a lower bar than paid, proctored professional certifications.
For roles requiring deep HubSpot expertise, consider also asking about:
- HubSpot Solutions Partner certification (for agency/consulting roles)
- Specific Hub certifications relevant to the role (Marketing Hub, Sales Hub, Service Hub, CMS)
- Practical experience building workflows, sequences, and reporting in HubSpot
HubSpot vs. Salesforce certifications
HubSpot and Salesforce are competing CRM platforms with separate certification tracks. Do not treat them as equivalent:
| Aspect | HubSpot | Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | $200–$400 per exam |
| Exam format | Online, unproctored | Proctored, timed |
| Renewal | Annual | Annual maintenance modules |
| Verification | HubSpot Academy link or Credly | Trailhead profile + Salesforce certview |
Red flags
- Cannot share a certificate link or Credly badge — HubSpot Academy makes sharing simple; inability is unusual
- Certificate is expired — HubSpot certs expire annually and a lapsed cert should not be represented as current
- Generic “HubSpot Certified” claim without specifying which certification
- Credly badge issuer is a training provider, not “HubSpot” directly
Verification checklist
- 1. Ask candidate to share the HubSpot Academy certificate link for each claimed cert
- 2. Verify the certificate recipient name matches the candidate
- 3. Check the expiration date — annual renewal required; must not be expired
- 4. Confirm the specific certification matches the role's requirements (Marketing Hub vs. Sales Hub, etc.)
Verify the marketing or business degree
Marketing professionals often hold degrees in marketing, communications, or business administration. Use VerifyED to confirm whether a claimed institution is properly accredited.
