IT Certification Verification
How to Verify a ServiceNow Certification
ServiceNow certifications validate skills on the Now Platform across administration, implementation, development, and specialist tracks. Certifications are issued as digital badges via Credly and verified through the candidate's NOW Learning profile. Here is how to verify them.
Quick answer
Ask the candidate to share their Credly badge link for each ServiceNow certification — Credly badges are publicly viewable and confirm the credential, issuer (ServiceNow), and expiration date. Alternatively, ask for their NOW Learning profile URL which displays all earned certifications. ServiceNow does not publish a separate employer-facing lookup tool.
ServiceNow certification tracks
ServiceNow organizes certifications across role-based tracks:
| Certification | Abbreviation | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Certified System Administrator | CSA | Platform administration; entry-level; required for most advanced certifications |
| Certified Implementation Specialist | CIS | Implementation of specific ServiceNow applications (ITSM, HR, ITOM, SecOps, etc.) |
| Certified Application Developer | CAD | Custom application development on the Now Platform |
| Certified Enterprise Architect | CES / Architect | Architecture design for complex ServiceNow environments; advanced |
| Certified Master Architect | CMA | Highest ServiceNow credential; requires panel review and prior certifications |
The CSA is the foundational credential and prerequisite for most CIS tracks. When hiring for implementation roles, confirm both the CSA and the relevant CIS module certification.
Verification via Credly
ServiceNow issues all certifications as digital badges through Credly. This is the primary verification method:
- Ask the candidate to share their Credly badge link(s) for each ServiceNow certification
- Open the link in a browser — Credly badges are publicly viewable without login
- Confirm: issuing organization is ServiceNow, certification name matches the claimed credential, and the badge is not expired
- Check the expiration date shown on the Credly badge — ServiceNow certifications expire and require renewal
Credly also provides a verification URL embedded in each badge that can be shared or referenced for audit purposes.
Verification via NOW Learning profile
Candidates can share their NOW Learning profile, which displays all earned certifications and training completions:
- Ask the candidate to share their NOW Learning public profile URL
- Navigate to the Certifications section of their profile
- Confirm the certifications listed, their dates, and active status
Certification maintenance and versioning
ServiceNow releases major platform updates twice per year. Certifications are version-specific and require maintenance:
- Certifications typically expire after 2 years
- Renewal requires passing a maintenance exam or delta exam for each new platform version
- Expired certifications are visible on Credly but marked as expired — confirm the badge is active, not expired
Version currency matters
A CSA earned on a two-year-old platform version may represent outdated knowledge. For active implementation roles, confirm the certification is current for a recent ServiceNow release (Xanadu, Yokohama, or later as of 2026). Check the badge issue date and version, not just active status.
ServiceNow partner program
ServiceNow partner organizations (Elite, Premier, Specialist tiers) must maintain certified headcount across their staff. If evaluating a consulting firm or MSP's ServiceNow capabilities, verify individual certifications separately from company partner status — partner status is granted to the organization, not portable to individual consultants.
Red flags
- Candidate cannot provide Credly badge link or NOW Learning profile
- Credly badge is expired — certification has lapsed without renewal
- Claiming CIS-ITSM or another CIS track without holding the prerequisite CSA
- CMA (Certified Master Architect) claim without documentation of the panel review process — this is the rarest ServiceNow credential
- Badge issuer on Credly is not ServiceNow — confirms it is a different certification
Verification checklist
- 1. Request Credly badge link(s) for each claimed ServiceNow certification
- 2. Confirm issuer is ServiceNow, credential name matches claim, and badge is not expired
- 3. Check badge issue date — confirm certification is for a recent platform version
- 4. For CIS tracks: confirm the underlying CSA is also active
- 5. Optionally request NOW Learning profile URL to see full certification history
Verify IT program accreditation
ServiceNow professionals often hold degrees from accredited IT or computer science programs. Use VerifyED to confirm whether a school's program is properly accredited.
