How to Verify a Tableau Certification

Tableau certifications validate data visualization and analytics skills on the Tableau platform. Since Salesforce's acquisition of Tableau, certifications are issued as Credly digital badges and align with Salesforce's credentialing infrastructure. Here is how to verify them.

Quick answer

Ask the candidate to share their Credly badge link for each Tableau certification. Credly badges are publicly viewable and confirm the credential name, issuer (Tableau/Salesforce), and expiration date. Alternatively, verify through the Salesforce Trailhead credential verification tool at trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/verification.

Tableau certification tracks

Tableau offers role-based certifications across analytics and administration:

Certification Focus Level
Tableau Desktop Specialist Core Tableau Desktop skills; connecting data, building visualizations Foundation
Tableau Certified Data Analyst Advanced analysis, calculations, dashboard design, data interpretation Associate
Tableau Server Certified Associate Tableau Server administration, deployment, user management Associate
Tableau Certified Consultant Implementation consulting; for Tableau partner organizations Professional

The Tableau Desktop Specialist is the entry-level credential and does not expire. The Tableau Certified Data Analyst requires renewal every 2 years. Confirm which credential the role requires before verifying.

Verification via Credly

Tableau certifications are issued as Credly digital badges. To verify:

  1. Ask the candidate to share the Credly badge link for each claimed Tableau certification
  2. Open the link in a browser — no login required
  3. Confirm: issuer is Tableau (or Salesforce/Tableau), credential name matches the claimed cert
  4. Check the expiration date — the Certified Data Analyst expires after 2 years; the Desktop Specialist does not expire

If the badge is expired, the candidate must have retaken the exam to hold current certification. An expired Credly badge is visible but will display an “Expired” badge.

Verification via Salesforce Trailhead

Because Tableau is part of the Salesforce platform family, Tableau certifications also appear on the Salesforce credential verification tool:

  1. Go to trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/verification
  2. Enter the candidate's first name, last name, and email address associated with their Salesforce/Tableau account
  3. All active Salesforce and Tableau certifications held by that individual will be listed
  4. Confirm the specific Tableau credential is shown as active

Tableau vs. Salesforce certifications

Salesforce and Tableau certifications are related (both appear on Trailhead) but are distinct credential sets. A Salesforce CRM Analytics certification is not a Tableau Desktop certification — the platforms have different use cases and skill requirements. Confirm the specific certification claimed is appropriate for the role before verifying.

Red flags

  • Candidate cannot provide Credly badge link or Trailhead verification for claimed Tableau certification
  • Credly badge is expired — particularly for the Certified Data Analyst which requires renewal
  • Presenting a Salesforce CRM Analytics or Einstein Analytics credential as equivalent to Tableau Desktop — different products
  • No badge or profile found under the name/email combination at the Trailhead verification tool

Verification checklist

  • 1. Request Credly badge link(s) for each claimed Tableau certification
  • 2. Confirm issuer is Tableau/Salesforce, credential name matches claim, and badge is not expired
  • 3. Optionally verify via Salesforce Trailhead credential verification tool using name and email
  • 4. For analyst roles: confirm Desktop Specialist or Certified Data Analyst (not just CRM/Einstein Analytics) is held

Verify data analytics program accreditation
