Elastic is the company behind the ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) and the Elastic Observability, Security, and Search platforms. Its certification program validates hands-on skills across engineering, operations, and security use cases. All active certifications are published to Credly, making third-party verification straightforward.

How to Verify via Credly

Elastic issues all certifications through Credly (credly.com), the same platform used by AWS, CompTIA, and many other technology vendors. Verification takes under two minutes:

1. Ask the candidate to share their Credly badge URL (typically https://www.credly.com/badges/[badge-id]) or their public Credly profile.
2. Open the badge link in a browser — no account required to view public badges.
3. Confirm the badge shows Elastic as the issuing organization, not a third party.
4. Check the Issued On and Expires On dates — Elastic certifications are version-specific and expire as the stack evolves (typically 2–3 years).
5. Click Verify on the Credly page to confirm authenticity; Credly will confirm the badge is genuine and tied to the named earner.

Verify via Elastic Training Portal

Candidates may also share a certification credential link from training.elastic.co/certification/verify. This page accepts a certification ID provided in the candidate's exam confirmation email and returns the credential name, earner, and status directly from Elastic's records.

Version Currency Matters

Elastic releases major stack versions annually. Certifications are tied to the Elasticsearch version covered in the exam (e.g., 8.x). When hiring for roles on a specific stack version, confirm the exam version on the Credly badge matches the version your team uses. An ECE earned on version 7.x is valid but may not reflect current 8.x feature knowledge.

Red Flags to Watch For

• Credly badge issued by an organization other than "Elastic" — could indicate a third-party training certificate, not an official Elastic cert.
• Badge marked Expired — candidate needs to recertify for current version.
• Candidate only provides a screenshot instead of a shareable badge URL — screenshots can be fabricated; always request the live Credly link.
• Certification name slightly misspelled (e.g., "Elastic Certified Expert" — this title does not exist).

Elastic vs. Other ELK/Search Credentials

Some professionals list OpenSearch experience (AWS fork of Elasticsearch) or third-party Udemy/Coursera course completions alongside official Elastic credentials. These have value for skills assessment but are not Elastic certifications — verify through Credly to distinguish official certs from training course completions.
