Argentina's university system

Argentina has one of Latin America's most respected higher education systems. The Ministry of Education recognizes institutions, and CONEAU (National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation) accredits programs in regulated professions. Argentina has over 130 universities, both public (free tuition) and private.

Verification process

  1. Check CONEAU accreditation — Programs in regulated professions (medicine, engineering, law) must be CONEAU-accredited.
  2. Verify ministerial recognition — Confirm the institution is recognized by the Ministry. VerifyED includes all recognized Argentine institutions.
  3. Contact the institution — Argentine universities maintain departamento de alumnos (student department) for verification.
  4. Apostille for international use — Argentina is a Hague Convention member. Degrees can be apostilled for international use.

Unique features

  • Free public universities — Public universities in Argentina are free, including for international students. This doesn't diminish their quality — UBA is Latin America's top-ranked university.
  • Longer degree programs — Many Argentine bachelor's degrees (licenciatura) are 5 years, more comparable to a combined bachelor's + master's.
  • Title-based system — Argentina uses professional titles (ingeniero, abogado, medico) rather than degree names.
